Magic: The Gathering basics

It would not be fair to describe Magic: The Gathering as just a collectible card game; it’s so much more than that. You’ll collect, trade and battle cards, attempting to rise up the ranks to become all-powerful within your realm, this is only the start of what could be many years (or decades!) of fun and social strategy gaming.

Let's set the scene

You’ll start your journey as a Planeswalker, a powerful wizard that can harness the magical energy of the lands around you. These are known as mana, which will help you cast powerful spells or summon terrifying creatures. Whether your preference is flying beasts, dragons or warriors that destroy their enemies with a single touch, you’ll be able to use your skills and strategic mind to effectively battle your opponents and increase your power.

Not only this, but you’ll be able to gather spells along the way which can help obliterate your opponent, give more power to your army, or, used at the right time, to completely change the game.

An evolving multiverse

As Magic: The Gathering keeps growing, the evolving multiverse will provide you with unique places and creatures over time. Every new set of cards can add something new to your arsenal, giving you fresh strategies and new moves to bring you closer to ultimate power.

The colours of magic

Every MTG strategy is personal. You can build your perfect deck, which would be made up of five distinct colours of magic and you can tailor these to your own preferences. Here’s the lowdown on the colours of magic:

• Green - If you love the fury of Mother Nature, you can use green magic to overwhelm your enemy with colossal beasts.

• Blue - Harness powers of clever manipulation and control your opponent’s moves.

• Black -  Go over to the dark side, where death and destruction reign.

• Red – Chaos and fire can be yours with fast and aggressive attacks.

• White – Protect and strengthen your own forces with pure magic.
