Dave Kendall
My first professional work was for Pat Mills. I was discovered by his long term, artistic collaborator Kev O Neill. Pat is affectionately referred to as the Godfather of British comics having created the ultra violent, banned and vilified, Action comic and then the long running 2000ad. Now celebrating it’s 40th year. I did some work with Pat on a story called Psycho killer for the unfortunately short lived Toxic! Comic. From there I worked on Necroscope by the British author Brian Lumley and a comic for the band Metallica. I have a creator owned project called Houses of the Holy with best selling author Mike Carey. In the last couple of years I have come full circle and I’m the illustrator and co creator of The Deadworld series for 2000ad. This details the destruction of Deadworld by Judge Death and his Lieutenants. Judge Death being the arch Nemesis of Judge Dredd. Apart from comics I’ve produced many, many, Magic The Gathering cards. Far too many to list. I started in 2006 so I have been illustrating for Wizards of the Coast for almost 20 years. Still producing work for them still.

Véronique Meignaud
Véronique Meignaud is an art director and an illustrator based in France. She studied Arts at the Emile Cohl school in Lyon, France; and graduated with a diploma of vocational studies in Floristry in Montreal, in 2018. In a career spanning over 19 years in France and in Canada, she has been specializing in visual development for multimedia experiences and video games, working for companies such as Ubisoft, Arkane Studios, Gameloft, Wizards of the Coast, Moment Factory, Cirque du Soleil, Post Canada. She is also the founder of Veloutier, studio focusing on floral arrangements, botanical set design and art direction.

Paul Scott Canavan
Paul Scott Canavan is an art director, artist and game designer from Scotland. Over the course of his 16 year career he has worked on projects including MTG, D&D, Daggerheart, Destiny 2, Guild Wars 2, Warhammer and Silent Hill: Townfall. Right now he's working hard on his first original game, Pale Tides, the witchcraft TTRPG. As a Magic artist, he's probably best known for cards like Force of Negation, Rhystic Study and The Royal Scions, but he's painted loads of lovely weirdos over the years.

Special Magic FormatsSpecial Magic formats add a layer of variety and innovation to the traditional game play, offering unique experiences that cater to different player preferences. They challenge players to think outside the box and adapt their strategies to new and evolving game play dynamics. The diversity ensures that there is always something new and exciting to explore in the world of Magic: The Gathering. Limited formats, such as Draft and Sealed Deck, require players to build decks from a restricted pool of cards provided at the event. This emphasis on strategy and adaptability makes each match a test of a player’s ability to innovate and think on their feet. On the other hand, Modern tournaments allow players to use a wide range of cards from both recent and past sets, resulting in diverse deck-building strategies and creative gameplay. Limited Formats Limited formats are a staple of Magic: The Gathering, offering a unique and challenging way to experience the game. In Sealed Deck, for instance, players construct their decks from a predetermined set of cards. The limited card pool means that players must carefully consider each card’s value and synergy, making every decision crucial to their success. Booster Draft is another popular limited format, where players select cards from booster packs in a rotating manner until all packs are drafted. This combines strategic deck-building with the excitement of opening booster packs, creating a dynamic and engaging game play experience. Each draft is a new challenge, requiring players to adapt their strategies based on the available cards and their opponents’ choices. Prerelease tournaments provide an early opportunity to test strategies with new cards before their official release. These events are a favourite among players eager to explore the latest sets and discover new synergies and tactics. The thrill of building a deck with fresh cards and competing in a limited environment is a highlight for many in the Magic community. Modern Format Tournaments Modern format tournaments are popular for their broad card pool and the diverse strategies they promote. Allowing the use of cards from all sets released since the Eighth Edition core set, these tournaments offer a rich and varied game play experience. Players can experiment with a wide range of deck-building options, combining cards from different eras to create powerful and unique strategies. This format’s use of cards from multiple sets allows for a vast array of deck archetypes, from aggressive aggro decks to intricate control strategies. This diversity ensures that no two tournaments are the same, keeping the game play fresh and engaging. Players must stay on their toes, constantly adapting to new meta shifts and discovering innovative ways to outplay their opponents. Competing in a tournament is a thrilling experience, as players navigate through rounds of intense matches, each with its own challenges and opportunities. The flexibility and depth make it a favourite among many in the Magic community, offering endless possibilities for creative and strategic round play.
